At dawn in Fonquetá, near Chía, light and fog are always intriguing and a bit mind-bending.
2nd January 2020. As the city wakes up, I walk the streets. Loneliness… except at some point a cat joins me and follows for some three or four blocks. We converse. Then something attracts his attention and disappears. A moment later a male stray dog arrives. I am fearful, as he comes very close to me. But the dog is friendly. He follows me for some two or three kilometers – or rather than following me, he walks with me. We converse. Other dogs bark at him; I tell them I am walking with him (noname).
The city is Valdivia, destroyed in 1960 by the most powerful earthquake ever recorded since they are recorded: 9.5 on Richter’s scale. Followed by a tsunami that created enormous bodies of water around the city. A city of dreams, of mist (not in summer, but somehow there are there), of the south. Of immigrants arrived from Germany around 1850.
